Please make sure you read over these before Thursday since there are some differences between VHSL and CFL or NFL.

Hi folks! We had a great kick off at the expo last night. In total we had nine schools and over 80 students!! I hope everyone found this helpful- I know for us it got my kids rellt excited about competing.

Our fist official meet is on Oct 21 at Godwin HS. Sign in starts at 4:30 and we should start rounds by 5:00. We will end and have everyone on the road by 8PM.

Registration:
Please e-mail me debate and forensics entries by 6:00 on Monday Oct 18th. Please make sure to include categories!

Judges:
You are responsible for suppling judges. Unfortunately our schedule is very tight at these meets. If you do not bring the required judges your students might not be able to compete. In debate it is 1 judge per 2 entries or fraction thereof (1 PF team counts as 1 entry), and 1 per 5 or fraction thereof in forensics.

So if you have 1 LD and 1 PF and 3 forensics students you will need 3 judges.

They must be posted by Monday at 6PM. You are responsible for bringing copies for your team. Any bills posted after the cutoff time cannot be used in competition.

Domestic : Illegal immigration problems in the US can be decreased.

International: North Korea’s change in leadership will provide a new opportunity for peace and cooperation with the US.

Virginia: Public School dances should be eliminated due the rapid increase of ‘raunchy’ dance moves and teenage drug use.

Economic: US Health Care will not be able to cover all citizens.

Domestic: Congress should increase the regulations of the War Powers Resolution in light of President Obama’s increase of US Military forces in Afghanistan.

International: The U.S. should support the Iranian Pro-Reform movement of Mir Hossein Mousavi to help avoid a potential armed conflict with Iran.

Virginia: The General Assembly should invoke sanctions over Home Owner Associations to limit their power over residents.

Economic: Restaurant smoking bans should be repealed in favor of private enterprise over public health concerns.

Public Forum: That merit pay based on student achievement should be a significant component of K-12 teacher compensation in United States public schools.

Domestic: National standards should be enacted to assure merit based pay for teachers.
International: President Obama should increase efforts with the UN to pass Global Climate Change laws.
Virginia: The Commonwealth should make all jurors anonymous.
Economic: The Federal Government should reinstitute the popular “Cash for Clunkers” to help drive fuel efficient auto sales.

We are running Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum and Congress. It is a very novice friendly event, most competitors will be first time debtors. You are welcome to bring students to just sit in and watch rounds-it can be a great way to learn.

The Richmond Metro Speech and Debate League (RMSDL) is a debate league open to any school, public or private, in the Richmond Metro Area. Our goal is to provide cheap, local meets to get students ready for competition at VHSL districts and other leagues.
